Syksyn 2015 lintuja - Birds of the fall 2015

Punapäänarsku Kiteen Hyypiillä - Red-crested pochard at Kitee Finland

Red-crested pochard (Netta rufina) was a  nice Eastern time surprise at Kitee. This was the second observation on the Lake Kiteenjärvi. Thanks to my friend Kimmo, who found the bird.

Eurasian pygmy owl

Found this cute small Eurasian pygmy owl (Glaucidium passerinum) by following the alarm calls of couple of Red crossbills (Loxia curvirostra). He/she wasn't too shy while sitting in the full day light on the Birch branch.

Solar eclipse in Finland

On the same week as the amazing aurora borealis flashed also a partly solar eclipse was seen in Finland. And the best thing was that just that day there was absolutely blue sky. It wasn't very easy to make photo shooting because the right exposure could be gained only with a very dark grey filter.

Because of the very high contrast solar eclipse shots are very simple black and white patterns.
Trying to shoot without the filter gave however one nice flare shot to show.

Northern Lights March 2015 - Aurora borealis

These beautiful Northern Lights were seen on the 18th March all over Finland. Flashing lasted all night and the best lightning was seen on the southern and mid sky.
